THE PINOTAGE Association's Perold Absa Cape Blend C<\/strong><\/span><\/a>ompetition<\/strong><\/span> was named in honour of Professor Abraham Izak Perold, the ‘Father<\/strong><\/span><\/a> of Pinotage'. The focus is on a category of red blends in which Pinotage is the primary component, and since the inception of the competition, KWV of Paarl has been the most successful entrant by far \u2013 eight wins with seven different vintages during the past 10 years. They too honoured the Prof by naming their champion after him, with the Perold Cape Blend having been fairly recently positioned within The Mentors range of wines, and it's the 2020 that claimed a spot among the Top\u00a06 in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another standout is the Louisa 2018 from Riebeek West's Pulpit Rock, who a month previously were celebrating victory in the Top 10 Pinotage Competition with their Brink 2019, also among the lowest-priced laureates on that occasion. The 2018 Louisa had not yet been released at the time of writing, with the 2017 vintage selling for R180pb ex-cellar \u2013 a whole lot less than four of the other top Cape Blends, three of them positioned at over R600pb.<\/p>\n
