THOUGH denied a trophy, three of South Africa's classified<\/a><\/span><\/strong> Sauvignon Blancs triumphed with gold medals and another five\u00a0were among seven SA silver medallists at the international 2016 Concours Mondial <\/a><\/span><\/strong>du Sauvignon taste-off hosted in Tordesillas, Spain.\"concours-mondial-sauvignon<\/a><\/p>\n

Leading the medal charge for the Cape were Ghost Corner 2015 from David Nieuwoudt's cellar in the Cederberg using grapes from Cape Agulhas, one of South Africa's Top 10 when it comes to\u00a0great Sauvignon track records. Also right up there was Delaire Graff Coastal Cuv\u00e9e 2015 and the 2014 Zevenwacht Z 360\u00b0, both from Stellenbosch cellars. While among the runners-up were MM Louw 2015 from Diemersdal in Durbanville and the Private Bin D234 auction wine from Nederburg of Paarl, two more Cape Sauvignons that ‘never' disappoint.<\/p>\n

There were some 900 entries this year in a competition involving 74 judges from over 20 countries. The medal count at the end of two days of ‘blind' tastings\u00a0came to 272, with five trophies going to wines from France (3), Austria and Spain.<\/p>\n
